For Bangkok Design Week 2021 we teamed up with Nikken Sekkei Thailand to design a lighting scheme for its temporary installation, Stay Cool Pavilion.
The intent of the structure was to illustrate Nikken Sekkei’s BIOSKIN facade technology – a countermeasure to the urban heat island effect – using a recyclable material of local importance in Thailand, namely terracotta brick.
The pavilion was enhanced by a lighting scheme that grazed the vertical surfaces with a wash of illumination to accentuate the texture of the brickwork and draw attention to the structure. Outside, playful shadows inspired by traditional Thai lanterns were cast on the floor for an added layer of visual interest. Within the pavilion, ambient lighting was provided by a feature light box that told the story and development of BIOSKIN technology.
