The Waldorf Astoria Lusail, Doha, situated in the region’s newest entertainment city, is a perfectly executed example of a world-class five-star hotel, transporting guests to a relaxing oasis designed to cater to their every need.
Appointed as the lighting consultancy for this project, we delivered a multidimensional lighting scheme that emanates the unassuming luxury extending throughout the hotel and its amenities. Our approach was to provide moments of splendour with effortlessly integrated lighting solutions that celebrate internationally acclaimed WATG’s architecture and the interiors by Wimberly Interiors, David Collins Studio and Pierre-Yves Rochon.
Exterior lighting is minimal and refined to achieve an impression of understated drama. The elegantly illuminated façade features lines of light that hug the architectural curves celebrating the clean lines of the building, creating a rhythmic flow of light that highlights the nautical design. Sleek rooftop soffits are lined with atmospheric light that bathes each terrace area in a warm colour temperature, assisting in illuminating the space as it seamlessly transitions from day to night.
Each of the 429 guest rooms offer an elegant retreat for guests to relax in. Softly illuminated cove lighting nestled in each ceiling provides a bright and airy solution, balancing the warm glow from the decorative bedside luminaires in a way that elevates the space. Rooms are fitted with an innovative control system to allow for easy lighting management and flexibility of scene selection that complements the exquisite interiors.
ESPA are world leaders in luxury hospitality, so we relished the opportunity to design a lighting scheme for their first spa in the Middle East. We adopted a creative approach to emphasise the splendour within each scheme of the spa. In the Men’s Pool a sparkling fibre optic ceiling adds an unexpected touch of drama, while in the Women’s Pool ambient coffer lighting illuminates the body of water and halos of diffuse light highlight marble feature walls, immersing guests in their surroundings.
