Peaceful and transportive, the Shangri-La Eros Wellness Club is a calming antidote to the ambient noise of Delhi. As the club is set primarily below ground with limited access to daylight, the experience is shaped through light.
A key challenge was the 50-metre circulation spine. Without external views or natural light, the long passage risked becoming monotonous, so we took inspiration from nature, using playful lighting techniques to add depth and visual interest to the journey.
In one of the connecting corridors, dappled light creates rhythm and contrast. Concealed projections form delicate patterns across the textured surfaces, breaking up the length of the passage through a nuanced play of light and shadow.
Across the spa and gym, water and daylight are recurring design references. In the female treatment rooms, gentle glimmers across the ceiling evoke the movement of water. A backlit tunable panel emulates the changing qualities of daylight in the men’s area, shifting between different colour temperatures and intensities of light.
Outside, the hotel’s gardens are anchored by a 100-foot pool with semi-immersed loungers. Diffuse lines of light emphasise both the form and volume of the pool, creating an atmospheric glow along the edges of the water and around the “floating” beds. Concealed lights within the planting soften the perimeter, and clusters of globe lamps create even more warmth and intimacy after dark.
