Selfridges Buying & Merchandising Offices

Cool. Creative. Current.

Selfridges Buying and Merchandising office space is a modern infusion of Brutalist architecture, comfort and colour. The strategic, low-energy lighting solution uses intentional but discreet light fixtures to promote an uncluttered, focused, and stylish environment.

The office space isn’t over done with different ideas and lighting schemes – instead, the same family of light fittings have been used creating a recognisable journey for employees. Vibrant surfaces are illuminated to emphasise their colour and texture, while vertical illumination on specific finishes brings depth and warmth to the space.

In the main workspace suspended linear pendants, with an upward and downward lighting element, hover above desk islands – they accentuate the exposed ceiling and wash the desk surfaces with a comfortable level of task lighting. Windows surround the office and the inclusion of a cove and uplights enhances the reveals and balances the lack of natural light in the evening.

In the break-out area known as the “playroom”, linear LED lights are concealed underneath fixed-bench seating to create visual interest and a low-level glow, and high-level illumination around the perimeter emphasises the verticals. A rectangular downlight component with uplight features is suspended from the ceiling, dramatically illuminating the informal space.

A bold contrast in colour and finishes is apparent in the bathroom with gold metal sheets that cover the walls. Perfectly proportioned lighting within the mirror and ceiling create a soft glow (great for touching up make-up) and indirect coves provide a wash of illumination down the surface of the gold.
