area 1 Calibration – Seeing Sound Guests are welcomed by a three-sided projection space where light pulses in synchrony with music.

Carl Nielsen Museum, Odense

Stroytelling with synchronised light

With the vision of Eventcom, and Coda to Coda we’ve collectively reimagined the interactive experience at the renovated Museum of Carl Nielsen in Odense, Denmark—an immersive journey through sound, light and storytelling, celebrating Denmark’s most celebrated composer.

Carl Nielsen (1865–1931) was a bold, expressive musician whose works, such as The Inextinguishable and the Aladdin Suite, remain energetically rooted in Danish tradition. Our design responds to the emotional depth of his music, using light to amplify his legacy across three distinct spaces.

Area 1- Calibration

Discover the story by seeing the sound

Guests are welcomed by a three-sided projection space where light pulses in synchrony with music.

This calibration moment captures Nielsen’s energy in physical form, allowing guests to see sound and immerse themselves fully in the world of the composer. Here, projected pixels form black and white imagery on fabric screens before evolving into erratic sparks of light. Filaments behind the fabric create a seamless transition from 2D to 3D—offering both depth to Nielsen’s music and dynamism to the exposition.

Filaments extend beyond the screens, guiding visitors upstairs, pulling them deeper into the narrative. This sequence pays homage to the emotive and playful character of Nielsen’s work, where light becomes integral to storytelling.

area two: exploration

Area 2- Exploration

Move through the music

In the Exploration room, ethereal filaments weave through the space, their density shifting as they respond to focal points of Nielsen’s life below. As guests move through, these glowing clusters evolve—gathering and reordering as the story of music unfolds.

Fine brass wire frames create structural luminaires that represent a moment of coherence within the evolving composition. The light responds to both the exhibits and the atmosphere, reflecting the ever-changing harmony of Nielsen’s soundscape. Suspended glass bulbs—varying in height and scale—illuminate in harmony with a self-playing piano, echoing the theme of musical synchronisation and inviting guests to feel the score as much as they hear it.

area 3: discovery

Area 3- Immersion

Feel the phenomena

The journey reaches a crescendo in the Immersion room, where layered filaments appear as pockets of light onto colour-washed surfaces. These ripples form a unified, visual entity to represent a moment of complete immersion with the music. As the energy of the space changes in response to the music, so too does the lighting—shifting perceptions of depth and tone.

Visitors are bathed in Nielsen’s music and light, immersed in a sensory landscape that is constantly transforming—warm to cool, saturated to soft, synchronised yet fluid. These moving illuminations create a sense of surrounded oneness with the music for the guests as they reflect on the sound and what they have discovered in the space.

Where vision meets technical precision

This project showcases the power of collaborative creativity. We worked closely with the exhibition designers, audio designers and curators to programme the lighting with sound, crafting a symphony of light where every element is tuned to emotion and experience.

At Nulty, no concept is too ambitious. With the right team and technical tenacity, anything can be brought to light.

Have a vision to illuminate? Let’s talk.
