Phenomenal Photos

Firstly, thank you to everyone who entered our Light Up Your Lockdown photography competition. It’s been a delight to see so many photographs capture light in different and creative ways. And to see people express their feelings with light – our days have certainly been made brighter, that’s for sure.

With some fabulous shots in the running it wasn’t easy whittling them down to three winners (who’ll each receive a Mathmos Lava Lamp), but we’ve done it. Here are the winners – CONGRATULATIONS! – and a few reasons as to why…

Photograph 1 by Swathi Madhi: the team loved this photograph because it encapsulates a child playing with light in a pure and innocent way. It instantly stood out as a winner for us because it’s a really personal moment with light, but also because children have missed out on so much during the lockdown by not being able to go to school or play with their friends.

Photograph 2 by Himasini Subramani: we were all in agreement that the composition of this photograph is incredible, especially the way that the photographer has captured a visible spectrum of light. The shot is even more impressive when you consider the added symbolism of a rainbow and light as a unifying medium.

Photograph 3 by Britta: outside space has been so precious to us all during the lockdown, so the way that this photographer captured the magnificence of daylight in all its splendour really resonated with us all. It’s a wonderful example of someone sharing a personal moment with light during the lockdown.
