Set within a Grade II listed Mayfair townhouse, The Six is a luxury hair and beauty salon conceived by founder Marcus Verissimo. Spanning six floors, the salon features an intricately layered customer journey, designed to marry comfort with uncompromising professional expertise.
The challenge lay in how we weaved warmth and character into the experience, while creating an environment where stylists, colourists and technicians can perform at the highest level. This meant designing out the common issues that hair salons often face, such as facial shadows, visual fatigue and inconsistent colour tones.
We responded by integrating light within the architecture and joinery to create indirect layers of illumination. On the Grooming Floor, where there is a lack of natural daylight, a backlit ceiling produces a soft, uniform layer of light from above, giving stylists the visibility and clarity they require to work. Above, in The Salon, an ultra-minimalist linear track system subtly boosts light levels, enhancing the ambience while harmonising with the architecture.
Our solution also delivers a consistently high quality of light throughout. Diffuse linear fittings concealed within the bespoke vanity units, create a soft, flattering glow that gently frames the face and improves visual comfort through an even distribution of light. Ultra-high CRI fittings also ensure that clients and stylists have complete confidence in their hair colour selections, as tones are rendered in an honest way.
On the upper floors, the atmosphere is more subdued to reflect the quieter pace of the beauty treatment spaces. In the Hand Parlour, the lighting is carefully directed toward the basin areas to support the pedicure technicians while allowing clients to relax in comfort. The treatment rooms follow the same design philosophy, with fittings concealed within the ceilings and mirrors to create a soft, cocooning ambience.
