The Breakfast Club is a small chain of quirky and delicious American-style cafes, each with an idiosyncratic look and feel. The Spitalfields venue is particularly interesting: its easy-to-miss and unremarkable frontage conceals a fun and intriguing space divided between an upstairs room serving food all day, and a subterranean bar with inventively named cocktails and sharing platters.
Our job was to create a lighting design scheme with a unique “feel” for each space and set the right tone for customers. We decided on a mixture of functional and feature lighting, making use of low-energy lamps wherever possible, in addition to neon signs for bursts of colour. The atmosphere is one of warmth and friendliness, mixed in with a healthy dose of drama.
